Things seen

Three things I've seen since last I posted

  1. a skydiver fall out of the sky, and die

  2. a hedgehog, at 2 in the morning, snuffling gently in the leaves and puddles in the gutter of my street, paying no attention to me and wearing a gleaming boot-button black nose straight out of a picture book, which glinted under the street lights

  3. a boy opposite me at dinner, wearing a black three-piece suit and tie and yellow converse all-stars on his feet.

These things surely have nothing to do with one another, but for some reason they all felt like the same thing. Perhaps this is why I fell in love with the boy. Quietly, you understand. Like the quiet after the skydiver and under the leaves in the gutter.

He didn't notice, like the hedgehog.

I'm quietly in love with this observation. The juxtaposition of real and unbelievable is nearly always amazing to behold, no?

Hello and I hope you are really and unbelievably well.
